Shaping AI as a Public Good in Education – EDEH Webinar

On Monday 24 February 2025, the European Digital Education Hub (EDEH) hosted the webinar “Shaping AI as a Public Good in Education”. The session, held from 16h to 17h (CET), gathered key stakeholders and experts to discuss the role of artificial intelligence in shaping the future of digital education across Europe.

This particular session addressed the concept of AI as a public good, with an emphasis on its implications for VET and lifelong learning. The webinar featured contributions from key speakers:

  • Francisco Javier Bellas Bouza (XAI Squad, EDEH & University of A Coruña), who highlighted the importance of explainable AI (XAI) in education and how transparency can enhance trust in digital learning tools.
  • Zeynep Varoglu (UNESCO), who presented the Dubai Declaration on Open Educational Resources and its potential to foster equitable access to digital learning.
  • Matthew Sanders (Meta), who offered insights into Meta’s approach to open-source AI, with a particular focus on the LLaMA model and its educational applications.

The European Digital Education Hub (EDEH) is a growing online community aiming to bridge gaps in digital education policy, research, and implementation. Since its launch in June 2022, it promoted collaboration and knowledge-sharing in the field of education. This June marks the third anniversary of the European Digital Education Hub! With over 6,500 members, we’ve built a thriving community that champions innovation, shares knowledge, and advances digital education across Europe.
