The Escola Profissional do Infante is a private educational institution that pursues public interest objectives and enjoys pedagogical, administrative, and financial autonomy, subject to the scientific, pedagogical, and functional supervision of the Ministry of Education .

Created by a Program Contract with the Ministry of Education, under the terms of Decree-Law No. 26/89 , of January 21, and fully operational since July 1990.

It is located in Vila Nova de Gaia , the third largest municipality in the country in terms of resident population. Comprising twenty-four parishes, its fundamental characteristics, in terms of economic structure, can be said to include:

a notorious desertification of the rural world |
a strong development of the heavy metalworking industry |
a notable investment in the trade and services sector, where the overall employment rate is around 60% |
a sector of the construction industry in constant and rapid evolution.
