Coaches and Athletes: The second edition of an initiative carried out under EfVET Internationalisation & Learning Mobility Thematic Team

The main activity of this TT was the second edition of its Coaches and Athletes initiative, aimed to address the subject of Mobility for learners and staff in Vocational Education and Training, through the implementation of two rounds of activities: one dedicated to the topic “How to apply for Accreditation”, and the other one focused on “Mobility processes and how to get started”, carried out between February and August 2025.

The process of selecting “Coaches” (EfVET members interested in sharing their know-how and experience on the topics of Accreditation and Mobility processes) and “Athletes” (EfVET members in search for information on how to develop Accreditation Processes, and on how organise and implement Mobility of teachers and students) followed the same procedures as the initiatives’ first edition, in 2021: the launch of a public call on EfVET Members’ Basecamp.

The call for “Athletes” was launched at the beginning of October 2024 (after the call for “Coaches”, earlier that year), and was finalised later that month.

In December 2024, there was a meeting between the Coordinators of this TT and the selected “Coaches”, aimed to present the main concept of the Coaches and Athletes initiative, to make an overview of the registered “Athletes” and the issues they would like to address, and to ask “Coaches” which topics and issues they would like to cover, based on their own expertise.

By the end of this meeting, the date for a general meeting to introduce all “Coaches” and “Athletes” was set for January 2025, and a decision was made to open this meeting to other EfVET Members potentially interested in becoming “Athletes” and who did not have the opportunity to reply to the public call in October.

As such, an invitation was made on EfVET Members’ Basecamp in December 2024, an approach that had positive results as more “Athletes” joined the initiative!

This introduction meeting was very successful as it allowed “Coaches” and “Athletes” to know each other and to identify the main challenges faced by the “Athletes” related to Accreditation and Mobility processes, and it was pivotal to understand how to organise the following sessions of the Coaches and Athletes initiative.

Accreditation Processes: Supporting Sessions (February – August 2025)

Led by the “Coach” Ben Bruyndonckx (Connectief, BE), these online sessions had 5 “Athletes” attending, identified during the introduction meeting, based on their needs. A total of 5 monthly sessions were conducted, each with a specific topic and organised in a logical sequence that followed the process of preparing an accreditation application:

  • Analysing and formulating needs;
  • How to formulate objectives;
  • Recap on needs and objectives;
  • Application Form;
  • Peer Review.

During these sessions, all “Athletes” had the opportunity to share their own experiences, to ask questions, and to discuss specific issues with the “Coach” and with the remaining “Athletes”, under a peer-learning and capacity-building environment.

Mobility Processes: How to get started? (May 2025)

Led by “Coaches” Simona Puggioni (ENAC, IT) and Ana Ribeiro (AEVA, PT), this online meeting was open to other EfVET Members willing to join the “Athletes” in search for information and best practices for better organising mobility activities of students and staff.

Thus, as in the case of the Coaches and Athletes’ introduction meeting, an invitation was launched in March on EfVET Members’ Basecamp, with a link for registrations.

(March – April 2025)

This session addressed the topic of Mobility from the perspectives of the Sending and Hosting organisations, focusing on what needs to be considered before, during and after a Mobility activity. Given that the session covered all issues and aspects identified by the “Athletes” about this topic, there were no further sessions dedicated to Mobility Processes.
