MiCrES Roundtable in EfVET Conference: Microcredentials in green finance

During the 34th EfVET Annual Conference, “Wellbeing in a Digitalised World – Crafting the Future of VET 2035”, EfVET presented the MiCrES project in Fátima (Portugal). The roundtable addressed the strategic role of micro-credentials in strengthening workforce development and enhancing quality assurance across Higher Education and VET systems.

On 23 October, the EfVET roundtable offered a dedicated space to showcase MiCrES progress, deliverables, and next steps. Valentina Chanina, representing EfVET as the Belgian partner, introduced the European Micro-credentials and Professional Qualifications Certification System (MiCrES), outlining its forward-looking approach to Sustainable Finance education.

Two 30-minute discussions highlighted the project’s objectives, methodology, and expected impact, attracting strong engagement. Around 24 participants from diverse VET institutions explored the draft curriculum of the ESG Foundation Certificate — a programme designed to equip financial services professionals with a solid understanding of ESG principles, regulatory frameworks, and emerging trends in sustainable finance. The curriculum development ensures a market-driven design, directly targeting the sector’s widening skills gap.

The session reaffirmed the sector’s appetite for structured, high-quality micro-credentials and underscored the need for consistent implementation across HVET centres in Europe. Feedback was both enthusiastic and pragmatic, pointing to the importance of coordinated adoption to scale impact.

EfVET and its partners remain committed to empowering professionals across Europe with the skills required to meet the accelerating demand for sustainable finance expertise.
